In 2017 the value of the Polish market of video games will reach PLN 1.84 billion. In order to provide for full exploitation of the capacity of the industry, the Agency of Industrial Development, University of Silesia and the Cieszyn District signed a letter of intent establishing the Accelerator of video games. It is the first project of this type in Poland, which will create the additional development impulse for the industry.

The joint initiative will help graduates of faculties associated with game development to found companies and enable them to overcome first barriers related to market entry. Additionally, through the support of education itself, activities of the Accelerator will have a broader impact on video game industry due to development of qualified staff.

- Polish video games win hearts of millions of players worldwide already today, proving that world famous products may be developed in Poland, based on local technological ideas. The Accelerator established owing to cooperation of a group of institutions will contribute to even more effective use of young Poles’ potential. The new project is the opportunity to combine their passion with business. One of the priorities of the government is to create such conditions which would allow to keep in Poland talented young people who were educated here - said Dawid Jackiewicz, Minister of Treasury present at the signing ceremony. - Attractive and innovative business projects need sound intellectual facilities. We want to provide such facilities to our entrepreneurs and investors. The exploitation of talents of young ambitious people, graduates of Polish universities is the opportunity for the development of the economy and enhancing its effectiveness. And the growth of national capital share in our GDP will be unquestionably a long-term effect of such measures - he added.

Deputy Minister of Development, Jadwiga Emilewicz stressed that the Ministry of Development would support the development of the Accelerator. - We look at this project with great hope. For us, continued development of the sector already winning its successes worldwide is very important – added Deputy Minister Emilewicz.

University of Silesia has become the substantive partner of the project. Its branch Faculty of Arts in Cieszyn educates professionals in the field of: Design of games and virtual space. In administrative terms, the Accelerator will be linked with the Cieszyn District to provide the required infrastructure. On the other hand, the ARP whose goal is the development of this innovative industry, will provide financial support to the project.

- The video game industry is a very innovative sector of the economy. We estimate that in 2017 the value of the Polish market of video games will reach PLN 1.84 billion. Launching of the accelerator will create an additional development impulse for the industry. We would like to have the maximum number of world hits created in Poland, comparable to the famous “The Witcher” – emphasised ARP President, Marcin Chludziński.

The Accelerator will be created based on close cooperation with universities educating specialists: graphic designers, IT specialists, designers.

The Rector of University of Silesia, Prof. Wiesław Banyś, PhD DSc highlighted that his university reacts to market needs and acts as a creator of new solutions. - Therefore, we are pleased to start the next initiative with the Agency of Industrial Development and the Cieszyn District aiming at creating of a pilot programme in the area of video game market. I am convinced that our common activities will contribute to generating new ideas of research projects, effective commercialisation of solutions and, first of all, stimulating of education in the scope of games - he added.

The seat of the Accelerator will be located in Cieszyn, where the field of studies on Design of games and virtual space has been actively operating, whereas the Silesian Province will be the initial area of activities.

- The Cieszyn District supports the initiative of creating of a pilot programme in the area of video game market on our territory. On our part, we shall endeavour to create friendly local conditions for activity of companies and individuals in this area - said Janusz Król, the Governor of the Cieszyn District.

The Accelerator will support the graduates through mentorship, assistance in acquiring financing for an editor or investor, accounting, game translation. In addition, it will be possible to apply for co-financing of projects, capital entry as well as financing of marketing activities, e.g. costs of trade fairs.

- The Accelerator, as a form of assistance in establishing companies is still not popular in Poland. Such linking of the incubator of entrepreneurship with the seed fund may generate very positive effects in case of games. The Cieszyn Accelerator is a pilot project. It will enable us to gain valuable experience for implementation of the national project in Poland, the ARP intends to deal with - said ARP Vice President, Michał Szaniawski.
