Champions join forces in building of the new image of Polish economy
17 biggest Polish enterprises establish the Polish National Foundation assigned to promote Polish economy as well as develop a positive image of companies with the State Treasury shareholding and investment projects they carry out in Poland and abroad.
Founders of the Polish National Foundation include the leading Polish concerns from the key sectors of the economy: energy, transport, logistics, mining, metallurgy, fuel, insurance, chemical and financial sector, real estate as well as games of chance.
The initiative to establish the foundation is derived from the strong, however, still unsatisfied need for the exchange of knowledge and experience and broad cooperation of the biggest state-owned companies with the aim of improvement of the image of the Polish economy - says Dawid Jackiewicz, the Minister of Treasury.
The combined potential of Polish enterprises provides a guarantee of success of this honourable mission, the final target of which should be the elimination of many untrue and unfair stereotypes about Poland and its economy from the international public space. For many years they have been hampering activities of our companies. The real image will allow for strengthening of our reliability, which will help to raise more funds for the implementation of investment projects to drive Polish economy - adds Dawid Jackiewicz.
By its activities the foundation will strive to abolish the stereotypes associated, inter alia, with the perception of the Polish economy. They include, for example, the opinion that the Polish energy sector does not develop clean renewable energy sources and its energy mix based on domestic raw materials, pollutes the environment. At the same time, we create more wind energy sources and generate more renewable energy of this type than, e.g. Denmark perceived as one of the leaders in this area. Power plants built by us belong to the most modern facilities in the world. As none of other countries Poland reduced CO2 emissions by 30 per cent within 26 years, simultaneously increasing its GDP by seven-fold.
The foundation, serving as a platform for cooperation of the largest companies with the State Treasury shareholding, will start its operations in the third quarter of 2016 and provide the opportunity for implementation of projects earlier unattainable across Poland, Europe and worldwide, simultaneously ensuring the achievement of strong synergy effects. 10 among 17 founders of the Polish National Foundation are classified within the index of 20 largest companies listed at the Warsaw Stock Exchange, and two others are included in the WIG40 index.
The list of enterprises establishing the foundation comprises four energy groups supplying electricity to over 90 per cent of consumers: PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, Enea, Energa, Tauron, as well as the biggest producers and sellers of gas and fuel in the country, i.e. Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo, PKN Orlen and Lotos Group. The founders also comprise top providers of insurance and financial services, i.e. PZU, PKO BP and the Stock Exchange as well as the leader on the market of games of chance - Totalizator Sportowy.
Other founder of the foundation, KGHM, is the biggest producer of silver and top manufacturer of copper in the world, whereas Azoty Group is one of the leaders of chemical industry in Europe. This group of founders also includes Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (Polish Arms Group), the leading manufacturer of modern equipment for the army, Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych (Polish Security Printing Works), the producer of, inter alia, personal Identity Cards, one of the biggest players on the commercial real estate market in the country and Polskie Koleje Państwowe (Polish State Railway), included among the biggest European groups comprising railway companies.
The task of the foundation will be, in particular, the promotion and protection of the image of the Republic of Poland as well as to develop a positive social perception of investment carried out by companies with the State Treasury shareholding. In addition, the objectives of the organisation include cooperation with local communities and with social and economic organisations as well as arranging and financing of social initiatives.
The financial resources for the implementation of tasks fulfilling the mission of the foundation will originate from its founders. The activity of the Polish National Foundation is aimed at implementing long-term goals, while maintaining the highest effectiveness and efficiency. To that end the foundation will use the state-of-the-art tools, simultaneously minimising own costs. Its activity will be open and transparent and the authorities of the foundation will be bound to draw up annual financial statements submitted to the foundation board.
